Snow Emergency Declaration
Snow Emergency
When a snow emergency is declared, removing all vehicles from the streets is mandatory. Failure to do so may result in citations from law enforcement officers for violating local ordinances. We kindly ask for your compliance with this requirement to ensure that our winter maintenance contractor can operate smoothly and without obstruction.
Under the Borough's Winter Maintenance contract, the contractor is required to plow from curb to curb. JACOBUS BOROUGH officials appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
For reference, Article I of JACOBUS BOROUGH's Vehicles and Traffic Ordinance grants the Mayor the authority to temporarily regulate traffic and parking in the event of natural occurrences and emergencies. These temporary regulations are enforced by JACOBUS BOROUGH's contracted law enforcement agency. Violators, upon conviction, will be subject to the penalties set forth in the law, including fines and related costs.
You should assume that if the local forecast is calling for an event that will cause hazardous road conditions and/or an accumulation of snow or ice, an emergency declaration WILL be issued. PLEASE keep your vehicles off of the street.

Helpful Suggestions
To minimize the amount of snow being plowed back into your cleared driveway:
- Clear snow from the street approximately 20 feet back from your driveway along the street. This will help reduce the snow windrow created by the plows as they pass your driveway.
- Mark your property lines with reflective markers. This provides a guideline for the drivers of snow removal equipment, as they are required by contract to plow from curb to curb.
Ordinance Violations
You may be in violation of borough ordinances under the following conditions:
- Depositing or causing to be deposited any snow or ice on or immediately next to a fire hydrant, on sidewalks, roadways, or loading/unloading areas of a public transportation system.
- Failing to remove your vehicle from the street when a Snow Emergency is declared.
- Not clearing your sidewalks to a minimum width of 36 inches within 24 hours after the cessation of precipitation.
