December 11th, 2010 was the perfect night for Jacobus Borough's '5th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony'. Homemade Christmas cookies, cake, and hot chocolate, coffee & warm apple cider were enjoyed by young & old alike. A crackling fire warmed hands & hearts, while a lucky child won the privilege of turning on the ChristmasTree lights for the 1st time of the season. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize gift certificates were awarded by Mayor Gruendler, to the winners of the borough's 'Exterior House Decorating Contest' and one also to a fortunate child who came closest to 'Guessing the # of Lights on the Christmas Tree'.
In the calm of the evening, distant sirens were heard and seemed to be drawing nearer. Soon flashing lights were seen & the sirens grew louder making their way into the park. But why? There was no emergency here. What is this firetruck doing here? Then someone alighted, and to everyone's surprise, who did appear but SANTA all dressed in red and his cheeks all rosy! How exciting!! And not only for the young children, but for the child in us all, who maybe still, believe in Christmas magic, even just a wee little bit.
As the evening's celebration came to an end, the excitement of children's voices were heard as they told Santa their most special wishes for Christmas, and favorite Christmas carols were sung as all, warmed by the glow of firelight, enjoyed the beauty of Christmas lights mixed with unblemished snow & topped off with a brightly shining, beautiful Christmas star.
Santa says, "Come & tell me your Christmas wishes."
"THANK YOU!" to all who helped Jacobus Borough's 5th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony be successful, with an extra special 'thanks' to Sheffer, who volunteered her time to chair the event's committee. A 'BIG' Thank you to all the others who volunteered their time & talents to make our 2010 ceremony a huge success... without your help the event would not happen. You all did a wonderful job, and even with the snow, which added tremendously to the atmosphere of the evening, the ceremony came off without a hitch. It goes without saying those who ventured out in the storm to come to the event greatly enjoyed the evening of seasonal fellowship & Christmas Spirit.
To our Jacobus Borough residents & those of surrounding communities... If you see any of our volunteers & sponsors, please remember to 'thank' them. It is because of those who willingly work for the benefit of our community, that you have the opportunity to come & enjoy our local community events. Let our volunteers & sponsors know you recognize their contributions & appreciate all they do.
To our 2010 event Sponsors -- THANK YOU!!
